Once, as a small boy, Alvaro Diaz-Rubio foolishly shoved a Crayon up his nose... way up. With a terrified mother and a considerable piece of colored wax lodged in his head, doctors told him the only way to rid himself of this foreign object would be to "draw it out, little buddy"; and just that he did. He studied in Miami's finest magnet-schools for art, got a little bullied here and there, and graduated from Design & Architecture Senior High, only to then receive a Full-Scholarship to The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, where he majored in Visual Communications.
After graduation, Alvaro held various design jobs around South Florida, from an Art Director for a national soccer team, to designing & illustrating children's coloring/activity books for major supermarket chains such as Stop-N-Shop, Shop-Rite, and Kroger Pharmacies. Soon after he became Advertising Art Director for the Miami New Times Newspaper, where his artwork began to be published. Since then, Alvaro Diaz-Rubio's cartoons & illustrations have appeared in many publications & magazines including: Village Voice, Miami New Times, Dallas Observer, Broward-Palm Beach New Times, Riverfront Times, Phoenix New Times, Blueprint Magazine, Category305, GUY Magazine, Second Guess Zine, Greeting Cards, Concert Flyers & Band's record sleeves.
With a constant stream of original artwork, and a bad habit of doodling on almost anything, Alvaro is almost always drawing, or painting, or sketching and possibly sometimes sleeping. He also enjoys making movies with his friends.
